Good food deserves something better than a plastic tray.
A charcuterie board is about serving and gathering. Plan it around the table, the food and the people reaching for it—not just the photograph.

Serving space and carrying space
Think about where the board will sit and how it will be carried when loaded. Bowls, cheese, crackers and utensils take more room than an empty board suggests.
Handles and shape should make the board comfortable to move without leaving too little usable space. Check the storage and washing space before choosing an oversized design.
Let the wood do some of the work
Grain, color and outline can be the main design features. If you like a natural edge or a particular species, share that preference and ask which material is suitable and available.
Personalization can be discussed as part of the design. Placement matters: the detail should work with the food layout and intended cleaning routine.
Serving is not always chopping
Do not assume every decorative serving surface is intended for heavy knife work. Tell the shop whether you want to prepare food on the board or mainly present it, and follow the use and finish guidance supplied with the piece.
Hand-wash as directed, avoid soaking and dry thoroughly. For daily preparation, compare the cutting-board construction guides before deciding on your order.
