I know how it is. My business is completely getting in the way of my blog at this time.

When you take money from people, they expect results. And with running a business, there are no cut and dry hours. I just work all the time.

Right now is feast, the last two years have been near famine for me.

I am completely with you on the "life gets in the way" aspect of all of this. You'd think that not being employed I'd have more time for the shop. Instead, I have more time for getting "house" stuff done (painting, replacing steps, etc) and for job hunting, not so much for the shop.

It doesn't help, being in an urban area with noise restrictions, so it's not as easy to get out and do stuff when I'm not otherwise busy. Just another factor in it all.

Good luck with moving forward.

I share some agreement on your opinion of A&C furniture. I find many of the designs too blocky and chunky. I actually prefer many of the modern interpretations better because they are lighter designs.

However, I do find the A&C designs a great source of inspiration. There are many elements and overall proportions that I do like to draw from.

I started designing an A&C table one time and I decided to start throwing in curves. It became my first piece of "fine furniture" and is still one of my favorite pieces to date.

You can see the results of it at my LJ projects page. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/914

Always love your input and perspectives!

Making design skills match woodworking skills is the sign of a truly skilled craftsman. I love designing pieces of furniture, and those first impressions are something I have often thought about. I can't say that I have fully mastered either the design or physical skills, but striving for it has been fun and interesting.
